And my wallet is now $3,200 lighter. The flywheel was indeed shot, the corroded exhaust bolts gave them some issues, and I had them replace my shifter bushings because fuck it, why not. My car is faster, shifts are crisp and tight with no play, and my clutch now engages like it should (so, I stalled a couple of times from old muscle memory).

What kind of E36 do you have again? You never show me pictures.

God made torches for rusty exhaust bolts. Are we talking exhaust manifold bolts?

It is sooooo good to hear it.

Ha, I guess I should stop bitching about having to spend $171 to replace a single tire. Glad you have your car back!

I haven't seen that in YEARS! Thank you

It's a classic for sure!

How much have you invested total so far?

What is, "too much," Trebek?

Haha
If it's less than $20K then it's proof that not everyone has to buy a new ST

Probably less than $8K all said and done.

That is not bad at all.
Brian needs to buy one.

See my question and answer.
Arch Duke only spent $8K so far.
Your Dad needs to approve used cars. He'll save money. You could have a sweet N/A straight six.

You don't think I've tried!? I've told him countless times that if I bought a cheap used car, that even with repairs it'll still be cheaper, he just doesn't believe me.

That's so funny. Your Dad would rather walk into a new car dealer and yell "shut up and take my money!"
Well on the positive side the car will be in your name, right? If so then it will be worth a good deal in a trade later when you have a job and can buy anything you want. So if he insists on spending more than $20K when you were OK with something cheaper then it only helps you.
It's funny cause when I was in college my Dad made me buy my own car when the E21 took a crap. I found a clean used E36 that was much newer and had way less miles than the E21. He was happy with that pick. He wasn't paying so he wasn't going to force me to spend over $20K, haha

...I'm the one paying and I'm still being forced into buying a new car though....

Oh I forgot the arrangement.
So it's your own money? You have that much saved up? Or you will be making payments?
![]() 04/11/2014 at 12:16 |

Making payments.
*cries*

Oh lord. I was confused this whole time.
I thought your Dad is paying for the whole thing.
That SUCKS that he decides that you HAVE to buy a brand new car and make payments on it.
If you're the one making payments you should be allowed to buy a CPO car for the same price.

Nope.
*cries more*

I've kind of embraced it. I do want to experience what a hot hatchback is like, so I guess I'll have my entire college career to do it.
![]() 04/11/2014 at 13:42 |

Oh yeah you'll be totally fine.
It's just a bummer that you can't decide how to spend your own money.
But it's not the end of the world. Being forced to get a new hot hatch instead of a used car with more power and luxury is definitely a First World Problem.
![]() 04/11/2014 at 13:53 |

Exactly. There's no use bitching about what kind of car I'm going to get. I'm excited either way. I really want to get a job at the local indoor karting track next year. I already have an internship lined up for summer.

that would be awesome!
free kart rides after work!

But all of the 10 year-olds will destroy me on the track! That weight difference!

LOL
You'll need to have one of the technicians tweak a kart to give you MOAR POWER

I've never even been there, I've only passed by. I wonder what it's like inside..
